Mission & History

The US-Qatar Business Council develops, supports, and advances the bilateral relationship between the United States and the State of Qatar.

The Council envisions a seamless relationship between the US and Qatar; a permanent partnership built on a foundation of mutual interests and strong political, business, cultural, and security relations. The Council is the leading organization dedicated exclusively to enhancing the bilateral relationship between the US and Qatar.

The Council achieves this vision primarily, but not exclusively, through improving the commercial and economic relationship between the US and Qatar. The Council offers business advisory services, consultancy services, and coordinates trade missions for US and Qatari companies to facilitate bilateral business. In addition, the Council supports this vision through publishing a weekly newsletter to high-level recipients in government, business, and academia, highlighting news, events, and developments in the US-Qatar relationship. The Council utilizes various vehicles to highlight Qatari happenings and engage stakeholders, including partnerships, events, and articles.

Under the patronage of His Highness the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, a group of American companies that first invested in the Qatari economy founded the US-Qatar Business Council in 1996 with the goal of promoting the commercial, economic, and trade relationship that has since grown exponentially.

The Council has played a crucial role in expanding the bilateral relationship by hosting senior executives from Fortune 500 companies, small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs), and high-ranking government officials for discussions on challenges and opportunities in both markets. As part of this program the Council has had the honor to host visits by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar as well as His Highness the Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani and many other senior Qatari officials and private personalities.

In support of educational and cultural partnerships, the Council played a major role in the formation of Qatar Foundation International (US based) and the formal relationship between select American Universities and their established campuses in Education City, currently known as Hamad bin Khalifa University. We also take pride in having facilitated scientific, educational and cultural endeavors between the two countries.
