NEW YORK, NY — SEPTEMBER 20, 2017: The US-Qatar Business Council (USQBC) and the US Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday hosted His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, the Minister of Economy & Commerce of the State of Qatar, and his accompanying delegation for a roundtable luncheon with senior executives of American companies at the University Club in New York City.
Mr. Mohammed Barakat, USQBC’s Managing Director, delivered opening remarks at the roundtable luncheon, followed by Khush Choksy, Senior Vice President, Middle East and Turkey Affairs, and Acting President, US-India Business Council at the US Chamber of Commerce, who introduced His Excellency the Minister.
His Excellency’s remarks focused on the strength of the Qatari economy in the face of current events. Further, he discussed the openness of the Qatari economy, especially as it pertains to international businesses. His Excellency commended the work of the US-Qatar Business Council in promoting bilateral business relations between the United States and Qatar. He emphasized the importance of USQBC and indicated that the Ministry of Economy & Commerce wishes to increase the engagement of USQBC in the United States and Qatar through stronger communication and enhanced US and Qatari company membership.
His Excellency the Minister’s remarks were followed by a presentation focusing on the attractive economic environment in Qatar for investments given by Mr. Abdulbasit Al-Ajji, Director of Business Development and Investment Promotion with Qatar’s Ministry of Economy & Commerce.
Mr. Al-Ajji’s presentation emphasized Qatar’s economic strengths when stacked against the international community. According to Mr. Al-Ajji, Qatar’s ranks 1st globally in government spending on projects and 1st globally in terms of tax impact on business incentives, among other rankings that incentivize international investment.
Following Mr. Al-Ajji’s presentation, His Excellency took questions from senior executives of US companies, focused on the current situation in Qatar and new opportunities for investment.
“Thank you for the partnership and friendship, we are looking forward to enhancing our relationship with American companies,” said His Excellency the Minister in his closing remarks.
“These roundtables are critical to enhancing our bilateral commercial relationships and give American companies key insights into navigating the ever-advancing Qatari economy…” said Mr. Barakat.“…We are extremely grateful to have the support of the Ministry of Economy & Commerce, and look forward to future engagements.”
نيويورك، نيويورك – 20 أيلول/سبتمبر 2017: استضاف مجلس الأعمال الأمريكي-القطري وغرفة التجارة الأمريكية يوم الأربعاء وزير الاقتصاد والتجارة القطري سعادة الشيخ أحمد بن جاسم آل ثاني والوفد المرافق له على مأدبة غداء مع كبار المسؤولين التنفيذيين في شركات أمريكية في يونيفرسيتي كلوب في مدينة نيويورك.
وألقى المدير التنفيذي لمجلس الأعمال السيد محمد بركات الكلمة الافتتاحية في مأدبة الغداء، وتلت ذلك كلمة نائب الرئيس الأول لشؤون الشرق الأوسط وتركيا ورئيس مجلس الأعمال الأمريكي-الهندي في غرفة التجارة الأمريكية بالإنابة خوش تشوكسي، الذي قدم سعادة الوزير.
ركزت تصريحات سعادته على قوة الاقتصاد القطري في مواجهة الأحداث الراهنة، كما ناقش انفتاح الاقتصاد القطري، وبخاصة في ما يتعلق بالشركات الدولية. وأثنى سعادته على عمل مجلس الأعمال الأمريكي-القطري في مجال تعزيز العلاقات التجارية الثنائية بين الولايات المتحدة وقطر. وتابع مؤكداً على أهمية مجلس الأعمال، وأشار إلى رغبة وزارة الاقتصاد والتجارة في زيادة مشاركة هذا المجلس في الولايات المتحدة وقطر من خلال تعزيز الاتصالات وعضوية الشركات الأمريكية والقطرية.
تلا تصريح سعادة الوزير عرض يركز على البيئة الاقتصادية القطرية الجذابة للاستثمارات قدمه مدير تطوير الأعمال وتشجيع الاستثمار مع وزارة الاقتصاد والتجارة القطرية السيد عبد الباسط العجي.
وركز عرض السيد العجي على نقاط القوة الاقتصادية في قطر بالمقارنة بالمجتمع الدولي. وبحسب السيد العجي، تحتل قطر المرتبة الأولى عالمياً من حيث الإنفاق الحكومي على المشاريع والأولى عالمياً من حيث التأثير الضريبي على حوافز الأعمال، بالإضافة إلى تصنيفات أخرى تحفز الاستثمار الدولي.
وبعد عرض السيد العجي، أجاب سعادته على أسئلة طرحها كبار المسؤولين التنفيذيين في شركات أمريكية ركزت على الوضع الحالي في قطر وفرص الاستثمار الجديدة.
وقال سعادة الوزير في كلمة الختام: "شكراً لكم على الشراكة والصداقة ونحن نتطلع قدماً إلى تعزيز علاقتنا مع الشركات الأمريكية."
وقال السيد بركات: "هذه الاجتماعات ضرورية لتعزيز علاقاتنا التجارية الثنائية وإعطاء الشركات الأمريكية فكرة أساسية عن الاقتصاد القطري المتطور باستمرار... نحن ممتنون فعلاً لتلقي دعم وزارة الاقتصاد والتجارة ونتطلع قدماً إلى المشاركات المستقبلية."
