WASHINGTON, DC - OCTOBER 12, 2017: The US-Qatar Business Council (USQBC) and the Embassy of the State of Qatar hosted his Excellency Ali Shareef Al Emadi, the Minister of Finance of the State of Qatar, and His Excellency Sheikh Abdulla bin Saoud Al-Thani, the Governor of the Central Bank of the State of Qatar, and their accompanying delegation for a reception and dinner in Washington, DC.
Mr. Mohammed Barakat, USQBC's Managing Director, delivered opening remarks at the dinner. His remarks highlighted Qatar's robust trade relationship with the United States, noting that it has progressively substantiated and will continue to do so in the coming years. Mr. Barakat thanked the Embassy of the State of Qatar for co-hosting the reception and dinner and thanked the delegation for their willingness to participate. Mr. Barakat then introduced His Excellency the Minister.
His Excellency the Minister's remarks focused on the current state of the Qatari economy, especially as it pertains to the ongoing blockade and the impact on American business interests in Qatar. He thanked USQBC for its role in enhancing the bilateral business relationship between the US and Qatar.
His Excellency the Minister said that the blockade has created innumerable opportunities for business and the Qatari economy. He highlighted Qatar's bolstered tourism economy and the steps Qatar has pledged to enhance the role of the private sector and make sure Qatar remains open for business.
"Qatar will soon announce more projects beyond the energy sector. These projects are geared towards the private sector, which we view as the key to enhancing the role of Qatar's economy as a global player." Business there.
Mr. Barakat then introduced His Excellency the Governor, who delivered observations focusing on Qatar's banking and financial sector.
His Excellency the Governor thanked USQBC for hosting the delegation and for its role in supporting American and Qatari companies seeking to engage in trade- enhancing the bilateral business community. He also made mention of USQBC's comprehensive guide to navigating the GCC crisis published earlier this year.
His Excellency the Governor then discussed ways in which Qatar has overcome the blockade in its financial and banking sector. He focused on the Central Bank's role in stabilizing the economy and sourcing funds through alternative sources. "Qatar's Central Bank is the leading bank in the region in terms of cash reserves, which have been critical in maintaining financial stability during the blockade." Said His Excellency the Governor.
Mr. Barakat, upon the conclusion of the event, said that "the Council will continue to host visiting delegations, both in the US and Qatar. These engagements facilitate contacts critical to the US-Qatar bilateral business relationship. We are appreciative of the opportunity and hope to continue to play a critical role in enhancing the relationship. "
Attendees of the dinner included senior executives of USQBC's member companies, senior executives from major companies doing business with Qatar, former Ambassadors and Diplomats, and the CEO's of some of Qatar's largest banks.
واشنطن العاصمة - 12 تشرين الأول/أكتوبر 2017: أقام مجلس الأعمال الأمريكي القطري وسفارة دولة قطر حفل استقبال وعشاء لسعادة وزير المالية القطري علي شريف العمادي، وسعادة الشيخ عبدالله بن سعود آل ثاني محافظ المصرف المركزي القطري، والوفد المرافق لهما في العاصمة واشنطن.
وألقى مدير مجلس الأعمال الأمريكي القطري السيد محمد بركات كلمة افتتاحية خلال العشاء سلّط من خلالها الضوء على العلاقة التجارية الوطيدة بين قطر والولايات المتحدة، مع الإشارة إلى التقدم الملحوظ الذي حققته والتأكيد على مواصلة هذا المسار خلال السنوات القادمة. وقد شكر السيد بركات سفارة دولة قطر على مشاركتها في تنظيم حفل الاستقبال والعشاء وكذلك الوفد القطري على رغبته في المشاركة. بعد ذلك، قدّم السيد بركات سعادة الوزير.
وتركز خطاب سعادة الوزير على الوضع الراهن للاقتصاد القطري، لا سيما في ما يتعلق بالحصار المستمر وأثر ذلك على مصالح الولايات المتحدة التجارية في قطر. وبدوره شكر مجلس الأعمال الأمريكي القطري على الدور الذي اضطلع به لتعزيز العلاقات التجارية الثنائية بين الولايات المتحدة وقطر.
ولفت سعادة الوزير إلى أن الحصار أدى إلى خلق فرص لا تعد ولا تحصى لقطاع الأعمال وللاقتصاد القطري، مشددًا على الاقتصاد السياحي المعزز في قطر والخطوات التي اتخذتها الدولة لتعزيز دور القطاع الخاص والحرص على بقاء قطر مفتوحة أمام الأعمال.
كما أضاف "ستعلن قطر قريبًا عن المزيد من المشاريع خارج قطاع الطاقة، مستهدفةً القطاع الخاص باعتباره الجهة الأساسيه لتعزيز دور اقتصاد قطر كطرف فاعل عالمي"، داعمًا وجهة نظره القائلة بأن قطر تسعى إلى تعزيز القطاع الخاص ودعم الشركات الأمريكية التي تزاول أعمالها في البلاد.
بعد ذلك، قدّم السيد بركات سعادة المحافظ الذي تركزت كلمته حول القطاع المصرفي والمالي في قطر.
وقد شكر سعادة المحافظ مجلس الأعمال الأمريكي القطري و سفارة دولة قطر في واشنطن على استضافته الوفد وعلى دور مجلس الأعمال الامريكي القطري في دعم الشركات الأمريكية والقطرية في ظل سعيها إلى الانخراط في التجارة - ما يساهم في تعزيز مجتمع الأعمال الثنائي. كما أتى على ذكر الدليل الشامل للخروج من أزمة دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي الخاص بمجلس الأعمال الأمريكي القطري الذي نشر في وقت سابق من هذا العام.
وناقش سعادة المحافظ أيضًا السبل التي مكّنت القطاع المالي والمصرفي القطري من تجاوز عواقب الحصار، مركزًا على دور المصرف المركزي في استقرار الاقتصاد وتوفير الأموال من موارد بديلة. وفي هذا الإطار، أشار المحافظ إلى أن "المصرف المركزي القطري هو المصرف الرائد في المنطقة لجهة الاحتياطيات النقدية، ما ساهم إلى حدّ كبير في الحفاظ على الاستقرار المالي خلال الحصار".
وعند اختتام الحفل، قال السيد بركات إن "المجلس سيواصل استضافة الوفود الزائرة، في الولايات المتحدة وقطر على السواء. فهذه المناسبات تسهل المحادثات التي تكتسي أهمية كبرى بالنسبة إلى العلاقة التجارية الثنائية بين البلدين. نحن نقدر هذه الفرصة المتاحة ونأمل مواصلة الاضطلاع بدور محوري في تعزيز العلاقة القائمة".
وقد حضر العشاء مجموعة من كبار المسؤولين التنفيذيين في شركات أعضاء في مجلس الأعمال الأمريكي القطري وفي شركات بارزة تتعاون مع قطر، وسفراء ودبلوماسيون سابقون، إلى جانب مدراء تنفيذيين لبعض أهم المصارف القطرية.
