Qatar Pledges More US Economic Investment Following SelectUSA Summit

WASHINGTON, DC – JUNE 22, 2018: The US-Qatar Business Council (USQBC) hosted the Minister of Economy and Commerce, His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani​ with key business leaders from the US and Qatar at the Fairmont Hotel last week. The event celebrated a series of high-level economic development meetings with Select USA.

The US Department of Commerce’s Select USA Investment Summit is the highest profile event promoting foreign direct investment in the United States. The Minister of Economy and Commerce led Qatar’s business delegation evaluating opportunities for significant economic development opportunities in America.

“Qatar is investing $45 billion in construction, real estate and infrastructure projects in the United States,” said the Minister. “Today, investments by Qatar’s private sector in the US is about 25% of our total international investments. The relationship between our two countries is strong and we are looking forward to growing these investment opportunities.”

US-Qatar Business Council President, Anne Patterson applauded Qatar’s investment in the US and reminded the room filled with American and Qatari business leaders that “Qatar wants to add value in its investments and create partnerships, not just purchase American assets.”  

“Qatar’s investment approach in the CityCenterDC has been responsible for much of the revitalization of downtown DC, and the Golden Pass investment in Texas which will generate 40,000 jobs over the life of the project.”
