USQBC Hosts AmCham Qatar for Roundtable in Washington, DC

> Last week the US-Qatar Business Council hosted a roundtable discussion for the American Chamber of Commerce—Qatar (AmCham Qatar) where they discussed the results of their annual “Doorknock,” which took place in Washington, DC from April 10-14, 2016. During AmCham Qatar’s annual “Doorknock,” they convene with American congressmen and constructively converse the pertinent issues related to the United States’s and Qatar’s commercial relationship. The roundtable welcomed USQBC members in the private sector and some government officials to candidly discuss the results of AmCham Qatar’s efforts. They also took the discussion further, assessing the current state of US-Qatari economic relations and the impact of US policies on their business activities in Doha. USQBC suggested to the participants that research be done on the legal basis for taxing tuition payments for children of Americans abroad who do not have access to a free, American public eduction and that Congressmen with constituents affected by these regulations be identified. There was also extensive discussion on the effects of US tax laws that cause US companies to steer away from employing Americans. During the roundtable, USQBC also presented our recent efforts and initiatives to enhance the bilateral relationship and create business opportunities between the United States and Qatar including the March's West Coast Roadshow and April'a Virginia Global Network Visit. USQBC was proud to host and facilitate this meaningful conversation with AmCham Qatar, and we look forward to collaborating with them in the future for the benefit of America’s and Qatar’s bilateral relationship. USQBC believes these roundtables are necessary in keeping an open dialogue about the bilateral business relationship, and that they are of great value to our members who are directly impacted by fluctuations in the relationship. — USQBC Staff
